A New Chapter For SPI
After many months, which seems like years, SPI and their subsidiary engineering company – A1 Precision have finally moved into new premises.
The move timely coincided with a SPI’s introduction to Tim Slomp, who visited on Wednesday 13th December along with Arend and Hester.
Tim and Paul Leverick, SPI’s Chairman, formally opened the building by cutting the dedicated SPI ribbon. Lunch and celebration drinks followed the opening ceremony for all members of staff, where Arend presented a symbolic key, indicating the start of a new chapter for SPI and A1. Further celebratory news was announced by Henry Tuck, Manging Director, that 2023 is a record year for order intake and is on course for the best sales year, to date.
For those (un) lucky enough to have visited the old premises, will know that light and space were a major issue. With only three windows in the whole building, it felt gloomily and somewhat uninspiring.
SPI occupied the old building since 2006 when Paul, moved the business there with only five members of staff. SPI and A1 now operate with 29 members of staff. As you can imagine, space became limited and the main driver in needing to move.
Discussions to move and employ more people began amongst the Management team back in 2020. Then – 2021 hit and the turbulence of Covid, meant people were working from home and the discussion simmered to a flicker of an idea. The flame was invigorated in 2022, after the first initial strategic landscaping meeting, between the Management team and the Tembo Board. All parties agreed that to achieve the strategic goals, more employees and space were needed, and therefore a new home. So, the search began.
After viewing many options, taking into consideration location and company growth, SPI were lucky to find a larger building on the same industrial estate which is close to the heart of engineering and the Advanced Manufacturing Park. The new building which has floor to ceiling windows on half of the building, has a light and airy feel. The manufacturing and production area layout is purposely designed for maximum efficiency and staff wellbeing. New to the SPI employees is a dedicated canteen, where staff can take lunch breaks away from their working environment. The new offices are complete with a large conference room, a luxury that was forsaken for office space in the old building. If you are in the UK, SPI proudly welcomes you to visit us in our new working space.
With a new home and the welcoming of a new CEO – SPI are on course for the next chapter in their journey. The positive end to the year has motivated the staff for an exciting 2024. Happy New Year to all within the Tembo Group.
